Why does the government take off for Columbus day?

Columbus day is another excuse for lazy, inept, power hungry, rat bums to take another day off! Just like Kwanzaa, just like President's day. . . . . All bad excuses for the powers that be to get sloppy drunk, or (like in Nancy Pelosi's case) sloppy stoned!
