My sims can't progress in their hobbies... why?

I used the robot making desk before and my sim was able to make fem-bots before too long, but now I'm on a different pc and I've put free time on my sim is stuck making toy robots constantly. My other sim is also only able to make pot holders with her sewing machine. Why don't they progress?
