Tax Question: State status has to be same as federal status?

I am a resident of hawaii and my husband (military) is a resident of georgia. we already filed federal taxes as married filing jointly (mfj) but when i try to file our individual state taxes that way, it calculates both our incomes for both states, and they need to be separated (i'm using turbo tax). can i do married filing separately for the state taxes even though i already did mfj for federal? or is there a different way to go about this. thanks!
